The God of Corsettery is with me recently so I decided to make a back-and-front laced pair of stays just for the sake of it. Yes XD I didn't really need a new pair of stays but I really really wanted to try to make a front lacing xD ...putting the stomacher on takes time and is difficult. I thought it would have been easier putting it on alone being double laced but it's still difficult XXDD Ah, the fun of corset-making XD
This stays were made with two layers of hard cotton and one layer of white brocade, 61 bones (or better, cable ties xD) and twirl tape laces Took about 4 days to complete, between working hours and normal life^^ but it was a lot of fun Completely machine-sewn apart from the bias tape on the tabs
Small construction note: I used one of Norah Waugh's patterns from Corset and Crinolines, differentely from the other stays I made and posted here. The construction details were fabulouse but I have to say that the enlarged pattern came out a bit short on the waist, meaning, the bones end in a not-so-comfortable position at the waist. I think it's mostly because of my body shape, but I have to resize it next time I'll try this same pattern XD
This is a travelling corset, designed so that the stomacher can be taken out easily and then put back at the end of a journey.
Hmm, it may be that you are uncomfortable around the waist because you do not seem to have much boning going right down into the ends of the tassetts. So all the bones do is dig into your waist rather than smoothing out your waist-line into your hips.
Are you aware that Jean Hunniset has a book on how to make corsets that takes this type of pattern but sizes it up to modern body shapes.
