Chemise a la Reine (aka chemise a la gaulle)

Description

I'm in the middle of a costume-making-rush to complete a portfolio that I don't know when I'll need (I was told June but I KNOW it's not going to be before August-September...) and I have to make original historical dresses from the late 17th to the 20th century. Kill me. Time is flying since I also work =_=;;
So well, to make at least one item quick and unexpensive I decided to make a chemise a la Reine, that I have been thinking to make since some time ago and never really got around to^^

I didn't have a pattern or construction indications for this one, so I put together my ideas from studying for hours this 3.bp.blogspot.com/_sSwzHKrMqeg… Marie Antoinette painting (the infamous she-was-in-negligee one xD) and some VERY approximate indications I once read in a book and came out with this pattern, which actually is a huge cilinder with holes for the sleeves (two cilinders, too), internal strings to gather the fabric and bias ruffles on the collar :D
The belt and ribbons are made of a rather sturdy taffetà I had in the house. I don't think I've seen this colour used in paintings but well, I love red and I didn't need to buy it XXD
The chemise is made of an extremely flimsy linen for the external layer and 100%synthetic something for the internal one, and is supposed to be worn with a petticoat (corded or not, it works well with both) and a jump :)
I'll make a straw hat for this one day...when I'll be over with the portfolio XD
There is a much more patterned chemise in history, that has an almost-polonaise back, but I really didn't want to spend too much time on this^^ I'll try one one day, though.
The last photo is a detail of the chemise's ruffles with the fichus I made to go with most my 18th century dresses xD

By the way, the fabric comes from a curtain 280x380 I bought for 5€. Bless street markets. They really help sometimes XXXDD

Pattern&dress making: me XD
