Aaaaaaaaaand my iper-time-consuming project for Lucca Comics 2014 is here XXXDD
It actually started as a merry "Yeey! Let's make a cute dress in less than a week!" project and ended up as an "OMG I'm never going to finish this these embroideries are DEADLY" project XXD
So, basically I've been wanting to be a Dalek since quite some time (people for other offices at work really get the worst out of you xD), and when I found out that was going to be 11th during Lucca I decided that the time was right to make it
I've seen a number of super cute cosplayers of Daleks in their "robot" form, but for me I wanted somenthing different, so I came up with the idea "what if the Dalek was a human being? How would it exterminate people?" and started rumaging between historical reports of murderes and such during georgian and victorian eras XD
Comes out, there was a number of reports of girls working as pronstitutes that would lure their customers in secluded alleys and rob them of what they had after hitting them with their walking canes, sometimes killing them.
Well, if that's not convenient for my purpose XD I could totally imagine a group of Daleks going around London and luring customers to exterminate them XD
After a bit of (rather difficult) research on the subject, I could understand that pronstitues back in victorian times, when taking a walk, dressed just like other ladies, but in way brighter colours, wore make-up and shiny jewellery, sometimes had their skirt's hem shortened on the front to show a bit of ankle. That would do, thus this concept was born
For those who are not familiar with Daleks, I was inspired by this Red Dalek -> dalektricity.files.wordpress.c…
The details I wanted to highlight in my dress are:
- the golden spheres
- the black base
- all the golden metallic pieces
- the "eye" XD
I chose a red crepe for the dress, and gold satin for the "metallic" highlights.
The skirt is made with 12 panels grading from shorter on the front to a train on the back, decorated with 48 spheres machine embroidered (total 26 hours of embroidery...) and hand stitched (total 51 hours of hand stitching....) on the panels. The black base is made with chiffon machine ruffled on both sides to create volume
The bodice is decorated with three layers of gold ruffles interlayed with black tulle to give the "grind" feeling of a Dalek, a ruffled gold border and small copper gold beads to have a bit of metal in the dress XD
The dress is to be worn with a mermaid cage and fully boned victoria corset to have the right shape Hisoka (the mannequin) is wearing both XD I'm planning on a crinoline, too, but I didn't have time to make it XD
I matched the dress with a VERY shiny red necklace, and made a small circlet with an azure crystal to create the "eye" effect on the front
...and I think this got really long so I'm totally stopping XD
Dress, embroidery and headpiece by: me XD
Photo&very poor editing by: me XD

Excellent.
Now all you need is a motorised crinoline as (in)famously worn / ridden by Jana Sterback...
Google 'remote control crinoline'...
