Sarah - Ballroom scene - Labyrinth by giusynuno Sarah - Ballroom scene - Labyrinth by giusynuno
I LOVE the movie "Labyrinth" <3<3<3 I first watched it when I was a child and Sarah's dream ballgown stitched to my imagination XD
I finally found the sort of right material to make it, and I'm rather happy with the result :D
The base of the dress is a rather cheap glittery cotton (only 2€/mt!), whereas the overlayer is translucent sheer voile with equally translucent pleats:heart: the same fabric is on the bust and sleeves but with the pleats inside, so only the rainbow-like colours come a bit out from the sheer white :) puff sleeves are made with translucent sheer organza with hard tulle inside:heart: all the decorations are either gold lace, swarovsky crystals and off-gold roses:heart:
Took a life to make but I really love the result:heart:
The cut of the bodice is slightly lower than the original, but I'm not 13 anymore so there was no reason in trying to look so XD

Dress pattern&making by: me xD

....I want your dress. It's the ballgown dress without the crazy puffy sleeves. It's perfect. *bows to the awesomeness*

Actually I'm not a huge fan of the puffy sleeves too XD I did make them puffy, but not as puffy as to look crazy XD
They're still VERY puffy though...xD

It took years to find the right cloth, then study of the details and effective making...it was a loooooong work XD

but obviously well worth it. sewing machines scare me which sounds funny coming out of my nearly thirty year old mouth, but its true. I admire people who tackle projects like this and well, the fact that its Labyrinth is icing on the proverbial cake.

Amazing job. I think every girl who's ever seen the movie secretly( or not so secretly) wants that gown. I have it on my to make list as well. I was planning to make it for next year's Fair but budgetproblems forced me to put it on hold for the moment.

You don't see it that often around here on Deviant. And it really is an wonderfull piece of work.

Thank you,I basicly have it worked out already, I know which patterns I want to use, which fabric(white silk taffeta with an overlayer of silver voile for the shiny effect.) I am thinking of bead embroidering the details on. Because for some reason I can never make a costume and not go crazy and start embroidering beads on it somewhere. I had made a pair of spats out of white embroidery cotton(made with the ball gown in mind already. But I can use them for the current costume as well.)And now I've been adding small silver beads to every flower center. There's some silver band on it with loops and I am contemplating putting tiny plastic pearls on the loops as well. They're in my gallery if you want to look.

Thank you, it was made for me. I had always like those anti drug things, and who needs drugs(or drugged peaches) when you can stare at his majesty?

I think that bead-emroider would fit Sarah's dress a lot!!! You can see beads on it during the scene :D
I sort of hate hand-beading because when I was younger I was "forced" to do it for some commissions, and I tried to leave the beads at the lowest levels even if actually there was supposed to be more on the bust XD

I quote you!! His Majesty is the only drug we need <3

I know if I can find the right shade of beads I'm all for it. Thinking of doing the oval decoration with an clear quartz cabochon or something, or if I can find one for a reasonable price a rainbow moonstone one. Because I used both moonstone and clear quartz in my jewelry set. Yep I have the set ready already, started with the tiara, then decided to make it a complete set with earrings and a choker. Just because I was thinking what Sarah would wear if she had taken Jareth up on his offer to be his queen.

Yeah I have a bit of an love hate relationship with it too, but that's mainly because I always poke myself in the fingers with the needle. Seriously I can manage to poke the back of the needle into my finger even.

Indeed(And hey my boyfriend allows me to do so. And he puts up with me quoting bits of the movie at random.)

I was looking at your jewels, they are so beautiful!!! The tiara matches the atmosphere in a gorgeous way!!! <3
I still wonder how Sarah managed to chose her brother over Jareth, seriously XXD

Oh!! Don't worry, I do poke myself with the back of the needle too, like...many times a day X°°°°DDD
